Morgan Johnson Norwood – Artist in Residence
North Gate Vineyard is pleased to announce the appointment of Morgan Johnson Norwood as the program’s newest Artist-in-Residence. Morgan will be hosting a public reception showing her work entitled ‘Seed, Planted: Paintings by Morgan Johnson Norwood,’ at North Gate Vineyard on Sunday January 7th, from 3PM to 5PM. Her paintings are created in oil with many layers of color, sometimes including lyrical marks drawn into the paint with charcoal and graphite. Her art will be on display through April 2, 2018. Morgan studied art and art education at Mercer University and the University of Georgia; and museum education at George Washington University. Her award-winning paintings, sculptures, and works on paper are currently collected in many parts of the world. Exhibitions include Artomatic 2008 and 2017; US Geological Survey headquarters and the JoAnn Rose Gallery, Reston; with solo exhibitions at ArtSpace Herndon. “I’m deeply fascinated by the shapes and shifting of shadows and of other forms in nature- roots, seed pods, and other small places for creatures to hide,” states Morgan. Her published illustrative work includes features in Fit Yoga magazine and she has illustrated two books, Hip Tranquil Chick: On and Off the Yoga Mat, by Kimberly Wilson; and Gorgeously Green: 8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life, by Sophie Uliano. Gorgeously Green was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show with the author and actor Julia Roberts. Raised in Atlanta, GA, Morgan has now found herself at home in this area for over a decade, teaching visual art to students at John Adams Elementary School in Alexandria and currently at Campbell Elementary School in Arlington. She lives in Arlington with her two daughters and when not teaching, creates at the Columbia Pike Artist Studios.
